Summer is just around the corner and what better way to unwind at the weekend than to prepare your home for those long summer evenings to come. Forget spring cleaning, summer provides the perfect opportunity to make over your house. Here are some ways your home can fit in with summer.

Outdoor living

Firstly, your outdoor area should be liveable, especially as we are likely to have some sweltering hot days, which means you may literally be living outside. If you have a patio or decking area, hose away the muck and grime of winter weather and set up an outdoor seating area. If you have grass, mow it, and spend some time potting flowers; when the time comes for an afternoon of sunbathing you can admire the lovely, flowery view. If you want to go one step further invest in some floral seat cushions to give your garden a bright summery feel.  Next all you have to do is crack out the BBQ, send out the invites and you’ll have your very own summer soiree.

Lighten up

A summer makeover isn’t all about the outside of your house; there are lots of things you can do inside. Making your house light and airy is essential. One way to do this is to install window shutters. Purely Shutters do a large range of shutters; in particular they offer plantation shutters which have louvres enabling you to control the light, and privacy, depending on your mood. This will make a huge difference from long and hefty curtains.

Furnishings

Adjusting your soft furnishings is a quick and easy way to transform your house from a winter home into a summer one.  Firstly, put away all things wintery such as blankets, candles, slippers, coats and fire wood. Then turn your fireplace into something summery by placing some bright flowers there. Invest in some throws to place over your sofa; there are some great floral ones available that will match your outside furniture. Also the throws can double up as picnic blankets. If you really want to make a big change to your home in time for summer then you could get painting. Avoid warm and rich colours and opt for neutral or pastel tones that will complement summer time nicely. Once your makeover is complete, all there is do is sit back and wait for the sun to shine.
